- **Event Description**: Join us as we read 4 incredible coming of age novels that explore the transition between girlhood and womanhood.About this EventThe Deep Cuts Book Club is back for our fourth year of communal reading. This year we are investigating what it means to come of age in vastly different places across the 20th century and taking our cues from four icons of literature. This year we will examine the works of L. M. Montgomery, Zora Neale Hurston, Betty Smith, and Dodie Smith. These stories are tied together by the psychological, emotional, and moral growth that are essential to the transition from girlhood to womanhood. How do we find our place? How do we figure out who we are? And how do we navigate the pains and sorrow that are intrinsic to humanity? We hope you come read with us!Perks that make this not your average book club: For each book we will send an introductory email that includes themes to pay attention to while reading, historical context, and recommendations for our favorite adaptations. Plus, you’ll have a chance to hang out at Kepler’s after hours with your favorite booksellers! We will also offer a small prize to members who make it to every meeting in the series. The four meetings will take place on the following Monday evenings at 6pm.March 16: Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery.June 1st: Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale HurstonSeptember 14: A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty SmithNovember 9: I Capture the Castle by Dodie SmithLike previous years, we will be offering an option to purchase admission AND each book together. If you just want to attend a few events, you can buy books and meeting admission individually. If you would prefer to read your own copies, you are welcome to! We will be asking for a $15 club fee for each meeting to cover food, drink, and staffing costs.Last year was wonderful and we are so excited to keep reading with you!Happy Reading!Donna & Stephanie
