- **Event Description**: Melanated Women Read is a book discussion group by and especially for Black women. This month we discuss Devil in a Blue Dress, by Walter Mosley.

Mosley’s first story featuring Easy Rawlins, the most iconic African American detective in all of fiction, was named one of the “best 100 mystery novels of all time” by the Mystery Writers of America.

In 1948 Los Angeles, Black veteran Easy Rawlins has just been fired from his job at a defense factory plant. Drinking in his friend’s bar, he’s wondering how he’ll manage to make ends meet, when a white man in a linen suit approaches him and offers him good money if Easy will simply locate Miss Daphne Money, a missing blonde beauty known to frequent Black jazz clubs.

Easy has no idea that by taking this job, his life is about to change forever.

About Melanated Women Read:

Melanated Women Read is a virtual book group that is by and especially for Black women. The purpose and focus are on inspiring, uplifting reads, and providing a safe space for Black women to speak, vent and enjoy honest and open conversation.

The group chooses from books written by Black authors. The goal of this community-based group is to introduce a variety of Black writers who will help build a love of reading in a positive environment while meeting new people and gaining new perspectives.

Melanated Women Read meets virtually on the first Monday of each month.
