Our popular "page-to-screen" book club, I Read That Movie @ the Library, continues this month with a classic coming-of-age book selection from 1970 that was adapted into a popular and critically acclaimed 2023 movie.
For March, we are reading Judy Blume's 1970 book Are You There, God? It's Me, Margaret, an immensely popular book when published that has continued to be a culturally significant work for more than five decades. Familiar to generations of readers, the book's young protagonist grapples with frankly-described challenges of moving to a new town, anxiety about sex and menstruation, and questions about religion. In addition to its enduring popularity, the book is also a consistent target of book challenges by parties seeking to prevent access to it.
On March 30 at 2:00 p.m., we'll be screening the long-awaited 2023 film adaptation of the book. The film, produced by veteran Hollywood filmmaker James L. Brooks (Terms of Endearment, Jerry Maguire and many others), features performances by Rachel McAdams and Kathy Bates.
We'll have free refreshments, and a discussion about the film and the book after the screening. As always, everyone is welcome to attend, even if you haven't read the book!
I Read That Movie @ the Library is made possible through funding provided by the Friends of the Library.
