Yarra Libraries and Teddy Darling present a community vigil for the international trans day of remembrance (TDOR) at Fitzroy Town Hall. This is a night for anyone who needs it: whether you are seeking company, sanctuary, reflection, or expression on this difficult day. 

Curated and hosted by local trans arts advocate Teddy Darling, joined by local feature artists and poets to be announced shortly.

EVENT DETAILS

Venue: Fitzroy Town Hall, 201 Napier Street, Fitzroy VIC
Accessible Entrance: via Fitzroy Library, 128 Moor Street

6PM | Doors open
7PM | Vigil begins
9PM | Event end

After the vigil begins, there will be musical and poetic performances, a guided community sharing, and an opportunity to place a flower and write names on a community board. The vigil will finish with a community chorale/singalong of two well-known songs. 

We will not be reading the list of names out loud but if you would like to request any names be placed in advance on the community board, please email theodore.stuart.murray@gmail.com. 

Community partners: Yarra Libraries and Teddy Darling welcome community representatives from local trans/queer organisations to assist and provide resources to those seeking information and support. Further information about partner organisations will be announced shortly.

ACCESSIBILITY
Fitzroy Town Hall is mobility accessible, but please note that the main entrance (Napier St) has stairs. There will be a staffed non-stair entrance via Fitzroy Library (Moor St) and volunteers/staff will be escorting patrons through the library to the lift.

Bathrooms: there are gendered bathrooms at Fitzroy Town Hall which will be all-gender bathrooms on the night (using signs). 

Mature Content
This event touches on mature themes, violence, and mental health but will touch on those issues using artistic expression and music. We recommend that under 18s are accompanied by a parent or responsible adult. We will have peer support available on the night for anyone experiencing emotional difficulties or needing support.

Alcohol and food
There will be no alcohol or food supplied on the premises. Please make sure you make appreciate arrangements for dinner beforehand.

This event takes place on the stolen lands of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation. Teddy Darling and Yarra Libraries acknowledge and pay respect to their elders, and extend their respect to trans and gender diverse aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and First Nations folks. On this day and all days we hold space in solidarity for the lives lost to these communities as well.
