Rather than emphasising surface effects, the masterclass centres on visual judgement, colour relationships, and artistic awareness.This is not a casual painting class.It is a concentrated exploration of observation and perception — on and beyond the canvas.About the ArtistHong Fu (b. 1946, China) migrated to Australia in 1990 and has held 68 solo exhibitions worldwide since 1988. He is widely recognised for his contribution to contemporary portrait painting in Australia.He was awarded the Shirley Hannan National Portrait Prize (2002) and has been a multiple finalist of the Archibald Prize (2008, 2009, 2021, 2022). His work was selected for the “Archie 100” exhibition at the Art Gallery of New South Wales. In 2022, he was a finalist for the Darling Portrait Prize, receiving a Highly Commended Award, and has also been shortlisted for the Doug Moran National Portrait Prize and the Dobell Prize of Drawing.With over 15 years of teaching and masterclass experience, Hong Fu has been invited to teach across art museums, cultural institutions, university art programs, independent galleries, and professional studios in Australia and internationally.
