Men and events lost in time- Inspired by stories from Arthur Walton, who enlisted in August 1914, I started writing during lockdowns. 
My research uncovered little known men and incidents such as Col. John Ward (pictured) an illiterate child-navvy, Trade Union leader, MP and Commanding Officer of a regiment of British men delving into deepest Siberia, Russian prisoners released to support the allies - who mutinied and killed their officers, and the only German PoW to escape from Britain .... in both World Wars. 
 It wasn't all mud, blood and barbed wire and this talk uncovers some of those fascinating stories that have been forgotten in the mainstream history. I look beyond the familiar devastation of the Western Front and the battles that dominate the collective memory of WW1.
