The Great Purge is coming.
Medford like many of our surrounding cities is being overrun with invasive plants that are growing exponentially every year.
You may see them in your yards and have managed to minimize them by cutting or pulling their stalks. Without getting to the roots, these plants just wait and resurface with more vitality later.
The worst situation is when the seed pods explode sending thousands of new soldiers into the wind spreading them onto any local property.
So the idea that your property is invasives free is not accounting for any of these dangerous invasive plants in the neighboring plots that will migrate onto your property sooner or later.
So plant by plant, plot by plot, street by street and neighborhood by neighborhood we need to eradicate them.
So join Dan Bender from Wilderscaping to help pull, bag and dispose of the plants overtaking Victory Park on Sunday, June 28, 2026 at 11:00.
We will be meeting at the gazebo, we will learn about Dan’s plans to harness the public to help fight this growing new problem,
Many hands make light work.
Hopefully the city will buy in to this campaign and help educate the public on this important new health hazard.
It’s a good chance to learn about the many kinds of plants that are choking our city’s ecosystem. They damage the soil and squeeze out local plants and reduce the important elements to ensure a good healthy forest located behind the park.
So come meet your neighbors, learn about this new problem, pull some weeds and help your community be a better place.
An hour or two is all we ask to make a difference.
Bring gloves, water and maybe a pitchfork to dig out the Black Swallow Wort roots. The Garlic Mustard plants will be removed before the seeds take flight.
Sidenote: We also need to advocate for revitalizing Victory Park by turning on the dormant irrigation to get the field back in shape, rake/regrade the overgrown walking path and restore the playground area back to its original plan.
