In previous years, the Indiana DNR has counted over 30,000 cranes at their peak in mid-November.These majestic cranes symbolize a remarkable comeback story in the Midwest. Once nearly extinct east of the Mississippi due to habitat loss and overexploitation, their numbers dwindled until the Migratory Bird Treaty Act of 1916. Thanks to conservation efforts, their populations have rebounded dramatically. Witnessing thousands of cranes gather, dance, and soar in the marshes is a breathtaking and inspiring spectacle that celebrates the resilience of nature.This event is free and open to the public. Feel free to come and go as you please!
