We are asking for your funding support for the creation of this project."This Is Not a Film About Feminism." exposes the micro-interactions we’re taught to tolerate: backhanded compliments, subtle dismissals, and the constant surprise at women’s competence. Built collaboratively from lived experience, the film explores what it means to adapt, instinctively and repeatedly, to exist within male-centred systems.We are connected to this project not by choice, but by the shared reality of living inside women’s bodies. Our successes, accomplishments, interests, and personalities are often seen as exceptions rather than expectations, as if capability itself makes us an anomaly. By existing beyond the limits placed on us, we are othered or treated as unusual, when in reality, we are simply capable people navigating systems built for others. This film shines a light on the layered, often unspoken experiences of women, recognizing that while our stories are all different, they are shaped by constant adaptation, resilience, and quiet resistance.It’s fueled by humour, anger, and truth. Told through a meta point of view, the film is aware of its own effect on viewers. It doesn’t just tell a story; it calls attention to how you, as a spectator, interact with or perpetuate these norms. This isn’t a manifesto, yet when women speak, move, and take up space, it’s automatically politicized. It asks viewers not to agree or disagree, only to witness.Our project aims to bring awareness to the discrimination women face in the arts, and at large, while creating opportunities for emerging female artists.
