Ixchel Mata is an eight-year-old girl who is homeschooled by her parents David and Talisa Mata. Ixchel was presented with the event theme “One World Many Peoples“ to create her first event poster from. Ixchel gathered inspiration from her own unique background and let that be the starting point for asking questions about what other people in our community may do. She had questions such as what do they eat? What are their dances like? How do they dress? She also observed things that many of us share in common in this shared village such as riding bikes, roller skating, making things by hand, and dancing. Ixchel drew pictures of people she saw as we explored in books, and online searches of photos and video, as well as from her own upbringing. From this she was able to draw one village of many people doing what they enjoy best.

Our region has great community gatherings with people from many diverse backgrounds and   Ixchel looks forward to more big events to come.
