The Toledo Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated proudly invites you to our Annual Breakfast for M’Lady Scholarship Event on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at 10:00 AM. This signature morning experience brings together inspiration, empowerment, and celebration all in support of young women and community leaders who are making a difference.
Guests will enjoy a delicious breakfast while engaging in a dynamic fireside chat featuring Dr. Brittany Jones and Ebony Carter, thoughtfully moderated by Fayth Atkins. Adding to the excitement, we are thrilled to have Candice Harrison as our Mistress of Caremony who will help set the tone for an unforgettable morning.
This inspiring event will also include honoring a Mother of the Year for her exceptional leadership and service to our community, awarding scholarships to four outstanding high school senior girls who exemplify academic excellence, leadership, and a strong commitment to service, recognizing a Toledo Alumnae Chapter member as Delta of the Year for outstanding dedication and service within the sorority and Live entertainment by the one & only Sax B, bringing smooth sounds and vibrant energy to the celebration

Dr. Brittany Jones serves as an At-Large Councilwoman on the Toledo City Council, where she was first appointed on February 28, 2024, later elected to complete an unexpired term in November 2024, and re-elected to a full four‑year term in November 2025. In her role, she chairs the Housing, Community Development & Public Health Committee and serves on several others, including Sustainability & Beautification; Community & Administrative Services; Economic Development & Innovation; and Finance, Debt & Budget Oversight. Beyond her public service, Dr. Jones works professionally as the Sr. Director of Evaluation & Impact for United Way of Greater Toledo, applying her expertise in research, data interpretation, and community impact measurement. She is a respected nonprofit leader known for blending data, equity, and community voice to drive meaningful change. With a professional background in impact, evaluation, and community research, she brings a results-driven approach to public service—grounded in measurable outcomes and informed by the lived experiences of residents. Her leadership bridges government, philanthropy, and grassroots advocacy, ensuring that policy conversations are rooted in both evidence and equity.
A Toledo native, Dr. Jones brings a rich academic journey to her civic work. She earned her bachelor’s degree from The Ohio State University in 2009, a graduate degree from Wayne State University in 2015, and a Ph.D. from the University of Toledo in 2021. Her scholarly interests include Black food geographies, urban planning, community development, and environmental justice—topics reflected in both her academic work and grassroots initiatives. She has served as an instructor at the University of Toledo, founded Earthworks Research & Consulting, LLC, and contributed to significant geographic studies such as the Toledo & Lucas County Poverty Study, Envisioning radical food geographies: Shared learning and praxis through the food justice scholar-activist/activist-scholar community of practice, Developing Black Urban Agrarianism, and Empowerment Through Consumption: Land Ownership, Land Banks, and Black Food Geographies . In her work, Dr. Jones has championed initiatives focused on economic stability, family well-being, and strengthening local systems—from childcare innovation and food access to neighborhood-level data strategies that support smarter public investment. She is especially passionate about community-led solutions and believes that residents should not only be heard, but empowered as co-designers of the policies that affect their daily lives. Dr Jones has been recognized for her leadership with honors such as the Black Lives Matter Community Activist Award and the African American Legacy Project Young Leader Award and has been active in organizations including Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., the NAACP Toledo Chapter, The Links, Inc, the Black Food and Farming Network, and the Ohio Food Policy Network, where she served as chair for two years. On top of all of this, she is a devoted wife, and mother to three beautiful children.
As both a policymaker and systems strategist, Dr. Jones is committed to transparent governance, collaborative leadership, and building communities where families can thrive. Whether she is advancing legislation, partnering with business and nonprofit leaders, or engaging directly with constituents, she leads with integrity, insight, and an unwavering commitment to public impact.
Ebony Carter is the Vice President of Minority Business Services and Director of the Minority Business Assistance Center (MBAC), where she leads state-appointed efforts to advance economic growth for women-, minority-, and veteran-owned businesses across Northwest Ohio. With over six years of experience supporting small businesses and startups, Ebony has built a reputation as a trusted strategist in funding access, strategic financial planning, organizational structure, and financial mindset transformation.
Grounded in the belief that change happens when we act intentional in purpose, on purpose, with purpose, Ebony has made it her mission to equip under-estimated communities with the tools, knowledge, and confidence needed to build sustainable businesses and create generational wealth. Her work centers on bridging gaps to equitable opportunity while normalizing the presence of women and minorities in elevated economic and leadership spaces.
A proud Toledo native, Ebony earned her Bachelor of Arts in Finance from the University of Toledo and is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. She draws daily inspiration from the talent and creativity within her hometown and is deeply committed to its long-term economic vitality.
Ebony’s leadership and impact have been recognized through numerous honors, including nomination as one of Toledo’s Top 100 Black Powerful Leaders, being the first young professional to receive the YWCA Woman on the Rise Award, winning 20 Under 40, and receiving the Kappa Alpha Psi Women of Excellence Award. She accepts these recognitions with gratitude, as a reflection of the village and support system that make her service possible.
