Annual petrified wood dig in Saddle Mountain 🦕 🌴🌳🌲.
Saturday morning we will form a vehicle line up and head out at 8AM to make the trek up the mountain. We will meet at the Buckshot Recreational Area near Mattawa, WA. Directions are as follows:
From Vantage, WA drive I90 for .8tenths of a mile and take the exit for WA-26 for a short distance to WA-243. Drive for 18 miles to road 26 SW, turning right. Follow road 26 SW for 1.7 miles, the road will change to gravel when you cross "U" SW. continue down the gravel road to the boat launch area, and you will find signs for the club. There will be sandwich boards marking turns on to the smaller roads.
Shovels, picks, hand trowels and buckets are suggested digging tools you will need to bring with you. No powertools are permitted at the dig sites.
Camping is permitted at the boat launch and is free with a valid WA Discovery Pass. It is dry camping next to the Columbia River. There is an outhouse for public use.
5PM Saturday evening join us for hamburgers and hot dogs. please bring a pot luck dish to share. It is also bring your own chairs, beverages, plates & cutlery. After dinner there will be a meeting and we can share the treasures unearthed. You're also responsible for packing out your own trash. Sunday morning there will be a Pancake breakfast with eggs, hash browns and sausage. Again, bring your own chairs, beverages, plates and cutlery.
After breakfast, those who want to go back to the mountain will have the opportunity.
