John Christopher Haddox, PhD, Associate Professor of Sustainable Design at West Virginia University heads the Folk Music of the Appalachian Coalfields. 

Funded by the National Coal Heritage Area (NCHA)-, the project seeks "to shine a light on the individuals who contributed to the rich folk music traditions of those coalfield counties.  While the songs and tunes themselves are wonderful and should be treasured, there is often a lack of information about the persons who made the music--a gap this project aims to fill."

Haddox will be performing the songs that have echoed in the hollers of the southern coalfields for a century. 

Come to the Matewan Community Center, located in the upstairs of the West Virginia Mine Wars Museum, for a night of music also serving as important cultural preservation for our region!
