- **Event Description**: Following our November Second Saturday, join us for a program inducting Lt. Albert Leroy David into the Nodaway County Historical Society’s Stairway of Stars. Born in Maryville in 1902, David joined the U.S. Navy in 1919 where he served as both active duty and later, fleet reserve. In 1939, he was recalled to active duty at the start of the Second World War. For his service, David was a recipient of two Navy Crosses and a Medal of Honor. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for his role in helping to capture the German submarine U-505, off the coast of French West Africa in June 1944. The Naval History and Heritage Command notes “this capture of an enemy vessel was the first since 1815.” This program is free and open to the public. Please join us in honoring Lt. David’s legacy.
