About the event

Wayne Gillespie & Famous Blue Raincoat,Sydney, Django Bar
"The reference is Lou Reed ..many of his songs channel the phrasing of Mr Rock’n’roll Animal (no shit!) but this one is curiously Neil Diamond, out of his classic Bang Original Mono Masters period.....Gillespie is one of this country’s finest songwriters, and just the breadth of styles is captivating... In five songs already and we have a wide palette of styles...
Settle Down has a little Fool to Cry (Rolling Stones) piano ...Melancholia of regret and the melodies are enchanting...
(They).... wrap up the evening with Until Tonight. Great Pop number of which he inserts a little of Iggy Pop’s Passenger."
Rev. Orange Peel 2/7/25

What to expect at this Sydney Camelot Show FRi 8 Aug!! (NZ review ).
"He starts..with This Place, New Locations, which opened his second album. Everybody needs a new sensation. The reference is Lou Reed and many of his songs channel the phrasing of Mr Rock’n’roll Animal (no shit!) but this one is curiously Neil Diamond, out of his classic Bang Original Mono Masters period. Plaintive and emotional, and he plays solo with an acoustic guitar...
The place was packed. The joint did start to rock eventually..
In five songs already and we have a wide palette of styles...
Settle Down has a little Fool to Cry (Rolling Stones) piano from Lines. Melancholia of regret and the melodies are enchanting...
Gillespie is one of this country’s finest songwriters, and just the breadth of styles is captivating...

Reviews of FRAZZ Album

When I say this new album is all over the place I mean it as a total compliment, such is the diversity of songs, styles, and sounds on it....Folk, Rock, and Jazz. . . it’s FRAZZ! Stuart Coupe Music Writer -24/6/2022

“Brick By Brick -That's good! Saxophones sound like Bowie 'plastic soul' era Martin Phillips (The Chills) Used with permission 17/10/21 RIP.

“(Bananas#2) - A jazzy Lou Reed, film noir, Miles Davis kind of vibe ” UK podcasters @yhhtmpc. August 2022

“(Delusions) - Like Leonard Cohen in a cosmic country folk dream -Post to the Wire- Sep 2022

“The hubris of calling themselves Famous Blue Raincoat is definitely justified ..I don’t know about Cohen, for me there is an essence of Lou Reed in that track (Chapel Street)..” John Lampe Tempo The Pulse (94.7FM The Pulse) Oct 2022

Reviews of Living In Exile Album:

"Gillespie's latest recording offers more evidence of his songwriting prowess" Brian Wise Rhythms Mag Australia 1995.

"Living in Exile was always going to sound great...it's real strengths lie in the songs and the warm huskiness of Gillespie's voice" Drum Media, Sydney, 1995.
