Delivered entirely outdoors in the Avebury and Marlborough Downs area, this hands-on course combines practical learning, map and compass work, and real navigation challenges in open countryside.
Led by Brian Hall a qualified and approved NNAS Provider with extensive experience, this course provides a professional yet relaxed learning environment for those wanting to build genuine confidence navigating independently.What You’ll Learn
Across two practical days, you’ll develop and refine the essential skills for safe, efficient, and confident travel in varied terrain:
Navigate accurately away from marked paths
Read and interpret complex map detail and contours
Take and follow compass bearings with precision
Plan, follow, and adapt routes in open countryside
Use pacing, timing, and environmental clues for position awareness
Apply route-finding strategies in poor visibility
Understand navigational risk management and safety
All successful participants will receive the NNAS Silver Navigator Award Certificate, recognised across the UK outdoor industry.
