Together, they are collaborating on innovative seed orchards to ensure a stable supply of site-specific plant material.The session explores the complex challenge of maintaining "wildness" within a managed setting. We will discuss the critical importance of local genetic diversity—the foundation of ecosystem resilience—and the inherent difficulties of preserving wild genetic adaptations in a cultivated farm environment. Participants will examine how standard agricultural practices can inadvertently select for traits that differ from wild populations and learn strategies to mitigate these risks. Join us to discover how they have been able to bridge the gap between commercial production and wild-origin integrity to support the long-term health of our regional landscapes.1/2 of the workshop fees will go towards funding GBNSB projects.
