Accompagnati dal prof. Silvio Scortegagna percorreremo l'ascesa effettuata al Monte Summano da Zannichelli Giovanni Girolamo illustre farmacista, botanico, biologo marino e geologo nel lontano 1724. Il Monte Summano ha sempre esercitato una forte attrazione sulle genti vicine e lontane. Fulcro di leggendarie idolatrie pagane ( si racconta che sulla cima, fino agli albori del cristianesimo, si venerasse Plutone, dio degli inferi), storica meta di pellegrinaggi cristiani,  epilogo penitenziale di un futuro santo, ma non solo. Del Summano a noi interessa soprattutto il suo pregevole patrimonio floristico che nei secoli passati fu ripetutamente visitato da insigni botanici che ne studiarono le peculiarità.
