Intensive Field Herpetology in Western Ghats 13 to 15 July 2018

Intensive Field Herpetology in Western Ghats 13 to 15 July 2018

Intensive Field Herpetology in its true sense! We will be working for an ongoing herpetofauna research project in Tillari Bioregion in the north Western Ghats. You will be trained in basic survey techniques and we will then head out to marked grids that are situated in the various ecological niches in the region. This basically means that we will be walking long hours in pouring rains, searching for herps and collecting scientific data. You will quite literally contribute directly to conservation research of herpetofauna in Western Ghats! In our previous workshop in this region, we found 48 species of herps in three days, many of which are probably new to science!

This expedition is part of a larger, long term conservation research project by GAIA Mitra Collective Foundation based in Goa, that is aimed at establishing the ecological importance of these forests which will result in conservation agreements with all stakeholders.

We will stay in Dodamarg Conservation Station situated in the dense forest, only accessible with 4x4 jeeps. Accommodation will be on shared basis in dormitories with attached bathroom and toilet at the conservation station. Our field work will take us to various parts of the forests in the region to be able to cover different ecological niches.

Soham Mukherjee ( http://naja.in/the-team/) - herpetologist at Naja.in will run the workshop in association with regional scientists.

You will receive a certificate at the end of this herpetology expedition.

Workshop fee is Rs. 10,000.00 (rupees ten thousand only) for non-student, and Rs. 7,500.00 (rupees seven thousand five hundred only) for students. We will pick you up from Mapusa/Thivim (Railway station), Goa on the 13th July morning and drop you back to Mapusa/Thivim (Railway station), Goa on 15th July evening.
