~FROM FOREST TO RING~
Details of the Drum Birthing Experience...
We embark on a Journey that brings the hides of the Winter back to Life... Drums with powerful voices and Good Medicine.
We will gather on the morning of "Good" Friday, April 3rd @ 9:00 am. We will process these raw hides into Drums through the Easter Weekend. This Spring Theme?? RE-Birth. ;)
We gather in Circle for introductions, Opening Prayer & Song. You may choose to opt out of the Smudging Ceremony, however we do ask that all participants sit in Circle with us & simply pass.
I begin by brushing participants off with the Eagle Wing Fan, and creating a Sacred Space for us to do this Good Work.
All of our Ancestors made Drums…we will be joined by our Ancestors. (I haven’t heard of a culture without Drums…yet.)
Drum Teachings will be woven into your experience throughout the weekend. Many Indigenous Teachings will be woven throughout your experience.
The cleaning of your Animal Brothers & Sisters is messy, hard work. It is also worth every thumb cramp, or splash of yuck.
We will end each day in Circle as well. Just to check in, see what needs are calling to be met, and to stay connected to the Spirits of our Drums.
We provide all the tools to do this work.
Some suggestions? If you have done work like this before and have favorite tools? Bring them. Bring clothes and shoes that are okay to get wet and mucky. Some folks bring rubber aprons, great idea. (Lee Valley or Amazon.ca) Some folks like the rubber gloves we provide, some bring gardening gloves, or work gloves. They will get wet.
Then we begin the work of cleaning and tending to the hides, doing this we are also tending to the Spirits of our Drums. We tend by cleaning through Friday, until approx. 5 pm. And we gather again on Saturday. 😉
Once again we tend the Spirits of our Drums through the day. Also ending around 5 pm, sometimes the group likes to go later… to finish up all the cleaning. Saturday is also the day where we cut the rounds & lace that bring our Drums together. If you see color in the essence of your Drum?? This will be the day you are dying it.
We will be providing food for a large hearty meal each day… Bison Soup or Stew, or Barbequed Salmon. We will also provide Vegan options. Vegetable Soup, or Sweet Potato, Coconut & Lime Soup. Fresh Bannock will be baked to accompany the meal. We will also have some GF & vegan treats, fruit, coffee, tea, and water. We will have dairy & non-dairy options, raw honey, maple syrup, & coconut sugar for sweeteners.
We invite participants to bring side dishes, and also feel free to bring other food, snacks or treats to share, favorite drinks… whatever your mind, body and spirit need to feel nourished. This work is not just physical, it often challenges us emotionally and mentally as well. The Good Work uses energy… so staying nourished is very important.
On Sunday we will be bringing our Drums out into the world, we will be lacing them around the Cedar Rings… I like to call this the Birthing Time. And it is a time when all your hard work comes together. The beautiful natural hues and if you have chosen to dye the skin?? The dynamic colors come out. The excitement is palatable. We are almost done!!! So much joy, and so much happiness at this time.
The Drums are always amazing. And their personalities shine.
Monday, we will decide what time to meet… When we meet, we will join in Circle to Journey or Meditate (whichever you prefer) to call out to our Drums and learn more about their Medicine, what Gifts they bring to us. We will also create the Beater that will assist our Drum in Singing. Easier work, Creative work, Finishing work. And once we are completed?? We wrap up with a Celebratory Feast!!
We do this work as a community, no one moves onto the next step until everyone is ready to. If we are finished cleaning our hide?? And there are participants who are still working hard?? We help them. That is the way this is done, it is the way of all strong communities. The bonus?? We move through the steps faster, together. And possibly finish up earlier!! 😃 Yay!
For your investment you will receive a rare experience to create and bring your own Drum to Life, with your own hands, from Forest to Ring.
You will not only experience this, but you will be shown, TAUGHT, how to do this work. You will see and learn all the Teachings that you need to do this again, on your own. This is exactly how I learned. Hands on Teaching, experiential Learning. This is how it’s done, Traditionally.
