- **Event Description**: From November to December, our Vault Gallery will feature a collection of first edition, framed original photographs by Baxter Miller.

Both elegy and vow, “Inheritance” examines the liminality of sacred places. Ethereal vignettes of ancestral grounds anchor the photography exhibition by Baxter Miller, a descendant of a Hatteras Island family who arrived in the 1700s. Printed and framed oversized on Hahnemühle watercolor rag, the work stands in stark contrast to traditional depictions of landscape.​

Baxter's photography is graphic, bold, full of transcendent color, and poppy high-key light. She often craves a vantage point from above and is keenly aware of how pattern and repetition shape a scene, a place, and us. Her work speaks to both the particular and the universal aspects of the relationship between people and the world around them.​​
​
There will be an opening reception on Friday, November 7 from 6pm to 8pm, where visitors can meet Baxter and view her work. The opening reception is during downtown Manteo's First Friday festivities, and is free and open to the public.​

"Inheritance" will be on display in the Vault Gallery November 8 - December 20, 2025.
