Nestled in a serene meander of the San Joaquin River, around seven miles south of Manteca, lies the Durham Ferry Outdoor Education Center. This inviting locale sets the stage for an enriching self-guided field trip. Accompanied by teachers and chaperones, your students will journey through the riparian forest, culminating in a visit to the San Joaquin River. Expect an array of interactive stations thoughtfully prepared by Durham Ferry staff.
Sample activities include:
- Sensory Sit Spots during the hike aim to provide participating students with a comprehensive experience of mindfulness and nature immersion through the use of their five senses.
- Birding Station: Pause and utilize our binoculars for bird observation, complemented by provided journal pages.
-Creature Craniums: Explore real animal skulls and nature journal observations.
- Mini BioBlitz: Delve into a hula hoop-sized plot, honing estimation skills, recording data, and exploring the minutiae of nature.
- Insect Hunt: Embark on a captivating insect hunt with mini bug catchers, recording findings in journals.
While the potential for community volunteers exists, their availability isn't guaranteed. Therefore, we recommend planning to lead the stations yourselves. DF Staff will always be on-site to support, guide, and assist. Comprehensive information will be furnished in advance. Two DF Staff members are available to guide field trips for up to two classes/day. Additionally, should you wish to utilize our property for your unique scientific studies, please don't hesitate to express your interest.

TIME: Field trip schedules typically run 9:00-1:00pm. Please indicate if alt. time is needed. (I will be requesting 10am-2pm)
COST: $400 for up to 32 students. Depending on the number of people who confirm, we will share the cost evenly per student. I will confirm by February 13th.
