Introducing The Song Exchange: An Open Mic for Songwriters
Starting 11/19, and continuing the 3rd Wednesday of each month, Don and I will be hosting an evening of original music at the Mothership.
How is this going to be different than the Open Mic we host at Phoenix Brewing Co?
1- Focus on Original Music. We are asking the performers to play at least one of their own songs.
2-Listening Environment. The Mothership is a Music Venue first, the expectation from the audience is that we are quiet and respectful while the artists are performing. We really want to foster a place where our attention is shared and everyone feels supported.
As such there are a couple important changes.
- There will be a $5 door charge for everyone. On the upside, the drinks there are considerably less expensive…
-There will be an actual sign up sheet for the artists, and they will all get a full 15 minutes on stage, with planned breaks between performances for sound check and to allow the audience to chat.
-Each month we will choose a Featured Artist for the next Song Exchange. That artist will receive some promotion from us and The Mothership. Most importantly they will take the Closing Spot with extra time on Stage.
We are still doing our regular Open Mic on the first Wednesday at the Phoenix, and will continue to run it as we have been.
I’m excited to see and hear the original artists in our community, and really appreciate Nate and the crew at the Mothership for giving this a shot.
