On a daily basis, verbally and nonverbally, youth receive messages that they are not loved, appreciated and adored in their natural form; as is, no alterations.
The Ballerina Who Lost Her Fro is the story of a beautiful, brown ballerina who wants to wear her natural hair to her recital. As she works her way through her day, she is confronted by verbal and environmenal microaggressions that threaten to derail her day, but with the strength of her natural hair in tow, Mya perseveres and shows the world that Ballerinas With Afros are Brown Girl Magic!
Join us for a fun, and socially distanced LIVE Book Signing! Due to the nature of the event, masks and/or verification of vaccination are required. If you would like a photo with the author, you must purchase one of the limited Meet and Greet Packages which includes Ballerina Merch valued at $25, a Signed hard copy of The Ballerina Who Lost Her Fro and a photo with the author (s) via digital download after the event.
This book highlights microaggressions and the messages they send to BBIPOC youth in our society.
It is our hope that this book helps to change that narrative and that children across the nation not only learn to love their natural, but that society understands the importance of loving their natural too.
