Leyna Marika Papach is a composer, interdisciplinary artist, and performer from Japan and the United States. With music as her central lens, she has created a body of work spanning across theater, opera, dance, poetry, film, and the visual arts.  Her many works have been presented in Europe, Japan, West Africa, US, and her explorations and projects have been supported by programs such as the MAP Fund, NEA, HERE Arts Center, Minnesota Opera, BAX, and ACF, among many others. As a collaborator, she maintains long-term projects with artists across a wide range of disciplines. Leyna studied violin at the Prague Academy of Music and received an MA in Theater-Dance studies from DAS Theater (Amsterdam) and an MFA in sound/music/interdisciplinary studies from Bard College. 

Dameun Maurice Strange is a Saint Paul–based sound artist, multi-instrumentalist, and composer whose conceptual chamber and electronic works explore the African diaspora through an Afrofuturist lens. Drawing on West African polyrhythms, synthesizers, jazz harmonies, and found sounds, he creates genre-defying performances that bridge ancestral narratives with contemporary expression.  A native of Washington, D.C., Strange began music at age five with the DC Youth Orchestra and later studied African drumming, composition, and poetry at Macalester College. He is pursuing graduate studies in Composition at the University of Minnesota.  His work has been commissioned by The Cedar Cultural Center, Seitu Jones, and Ananya Dance Theatre, with premieres including Mother King and O.S.A.G.D.. Honors include the 2015 Minnesota Emerging Composers Award, 2018 ACF | Create Award, and 2019 Jerome Hill Fellowship.  Strange is also a dedicated arts advocate, former Director of Community and Belonging for the American Composers Forum, and a passionate voice for equity in the arts.

Waves is an electro-acoustic band made up of artists Dameun Strange and Leyna Marika Papach creating ambient dreamscapes featuring strings, percussion, electronics and synthesizers.

Live at the Carnegie is a Saturday Listening Series, curated by Liz Draper. Performances are open to all, with a $20 suggested donation to support the Carnegie and the artists.
