Come play with clay and make your very own little altar… shelf… shrine… glow zone… whatever you want to call it!
Think small clay shelves that can sit proudly on a table or hang on your wall. They’re perfect for holding a tealight candle, a photo of someone special, a tiny vase for dried flowers, crystals, trinkets, or any little treasure that deserves its own spotlight.
You’ll be hand-building your pieces completely from scratch, and along the way we’ll guide you through the basics of:
• Rolling out a clay slab
• Designing your own freehand shape (or using one of our pre-made templates if you’d prefer a head start)
• Slip + score techniques (aka how to properly join clay so it doesn’t dramatically fall apart later)
• Simple sculptural details
• General handbuilding skills you can use again and again
You’ll get to use a range of pottery tools and supplied with enough clay to make at least two luminaries (time permitting). So yes, you can keep one and gift one… or keep both. We don’t judge.
To finish, you’ll choose from a beautiful range of glaze colours and we’ll take care of the rest. Your pieces will dry, be cleaned up, glazed in your chosen colours, and fired by Tara and Sarah. The full process takes around two weeks, and we’ll send you a little “your babies are ready” notification when they’re good to be picked up.
We’ll have light nibbly snacks, tea and coffee available. You’re also very welcome to BYO if you’d like to sip while you sculpt.
No prior experience needed.
No creative background required.
Truly zero skills necessary.
If you have hands and you’re curious, you’re qualified.
It’s a relaxed, welcoming night of learning something new, getting a little messy, meeting lovely humans, and having a laugh while you’re at it.
