Originating from the 1886 Haymarket affair in Chicago, it commemorates the fight for an eight-hour workday, often featuring marches and rallies. Widely celebrated in Europe, Asia, Africa, and South America as a public holiday, it is marked by demonstrations and rallies. While we recognize that most businesses, schools, and employees in Manitou Springs and the region do not have the luxury or ability to participate, we are here to represent all of you, too. In Manitou Springs, that means shopping local and spending your money with intention. Many protests are led by the art community.
