Woodworking With a Ranger

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY:

Step back into the tradition of handcraft. In this ongoing series, the Interpretive Ranger will guide you through woodworking projects that connect practical skills with the natural resources of Fontainebleau. From carving utensils to shaping walking sticks or trying your hand at whittling, each session highlights a different project and the timeless art of working with wood.

Walking Sticks will be standard starting projects. However, the focus of this week's program will be learning cutting techniques and types of cuts.

UPDATED REQUIREMENTS:
- Participants will need to provide their own knife/knives. A simple pocketknife or fixed blade will work.
- All minors must be accompanied by an adult.
- The Interpretive Ranger will demonstrate some tools which may not be used by participants, such as the drawknife and hatchet.

*If you have any personal hand tools that you have wanted to learn how to use, feel free to bring them with you.

There is no extra fee for this program. Wood has been collected from around the park and is available. All ages are welcome as long as safety instructions can be followed.
