So, on Sunday 9th November, we'd like to invite you to join the CyanLines' Founders - Tom Bloxham MBE CBE and Pete Swift - for the first FREE guided tour of the Irwell & Castlefield loop (CL4), one of our favourites.Led by Jonathan Schofield, one of Manchester's finest historical and nature walking tour leaders, the loop will explore our city’s green and blue spaces, but also reveal Manchester and Salford’s industrial past, its pioneering present, and an optimistic future. It'll celebrate some of the world's most significant bridges, rivers and viaducts and the people who made Manchester - mighty engineers, newspaper founders, novelists and pioneers. We'll meander over bridges connecting places old and new; discover green parks and growing neighbourhoods and learn about our cultural roots and spaces.Irwell & Castlefield 5 mile route:We'll meet outside Aviva Studios (on the terrace) and stroll a short distance to the Science and Industry Museum before moving on to Castlefield Viaduct and its new sky garden, developed by the National Trust. A stroll down the Bridgewater Canal, over to St George's Island then across the Ship Canal will bring us into Salford. We’ll see one of the deepest canal locks in the world before stepping into the vibant new neighbourhood of Middlewood Locks. From here, we'll walk down the River Irwell riverside path to one of the newest green city parks, Greengate. Trinity bridge will then connect us back onto the River Irwell towpath where we'll head back to Aviva Studios for a well earned cuppa.You can follow the route at Komoot: https://www.komoot.com/tour/2518067600Date and time:Sunday 9th November, meet at 11am. Wear sensible shoes as some parts of the walk could be muddy and please check the weather before leaving home!Accessibility:The route is currently not suitable for those who are disabled, prams or buggies as some river bank surfaces are not yet fully accessible.
