Following the journey from the Town Hall through Canal Street and onwards to Sidney Street, we will explore the partnerships, campaigns and community action that transformed an ambitious idea into a lasting reality. The story is one of determination and resilience in the face of public funding challenges, political opposition and changing attitudes. Along the way, we will uncover how local communities, activists and public bodies worked together over several decades to create a permanent home for LGBT organisations and services, reflecting wider changes in public policy, equality and community development. The walking tour concludes at The Proud Place, situated within one of Manchester's most diverse urban blocks, alongside faith organisations, community groups, independent businesses and social enterprises.Building architect Ste Garlik will then lead visitors on a tour of the building itself, offering insight into the vision, design process and architectural features of the Centre. Participants will learn how the building was conceived to support inclusion, wellbeing and community connection, and how its spaces were shaped in collaboration with the organisations and people who use it. The Ground Up cafe at The Proud Place will be open for those who want to grab a coffee or lunch.Together, the walking and building tour provide a unique opportunity to understand both the history and the physical creation of one of Manchester's most significant community buildings. All money raised goes to The Proud Trust, supporting LGBT+ youth through youth groups, peer support & mentoring programmes.Meeting point: Manchester CenotaphEnd point: The Proud Place - **Event URL**: https://allevents.in/manchester/the-proud-place-guided-tour-and-the-story-of-manchesters-lgbt-centre/100002001376181033 - **Event Categories**: fitness, Meetups - **Interested Audience**: - total_interested_count: 0 - **Event Highlights**: - Duration: 2 hours - Location: Manchester Cenotaph - Languages: English ## Ticket Details - **Ticket Price Range**: min: 0, max: 11.55, currency: GBP ## Event venue details - **city**: Manchester - **state**: EN - **country**: United Kingdom - **location**: Manchester Cenotaph - **lat**: 53.4787072 - **long**: -2.2430365 - **full address**: Manchester Cenotaph, Manchester Cenotaph, Manchester, United Kingdom ## Event gallery - **Alt text**: The Proud Place: Guided Tour and The Story of Manchester's LGBT+ Centre - **Image URL**: https://cdn-az.allevents.in/events1/banners/14b5164c4901befef9d80dfab80bdd193c070128a2c123768d8393d1da4ab3f7-rimg-w1200-h600-dc683898-gmir.jpg?v=1790350308 ## FAQs - **Q**: When and where is The Proud Place: Guided Tour and The Story of Manchester's LGBT+ Centre being held? - **A:** The Proud Place: Guided Tour and The Story of Manchester's LGBT+ Centre takes place on Sat, 10 Oct, 2026 at 10:00 am to Sat, 10 Oct, 2026 at 12:00 pm at Manchester Cenotaph, Manchester Cenotaph, Manchester, United Kingdom. - **Q**: Who is organizing The Proud Place: Guided Tour and The Story of Manchester's LGBT+ Centre? - **A:** The Proud Place: Guided Tour and The Story of Manchester's LGBT+ Centre is organized by The Proud Place. ## Structured Data (JSON-LD) ```json [ { "@context": "https://schema.org", "@type": "Event", "name": "The Proud Place: Guided Tour and The Story of Manchester's LGBT+ Centre", "image": "https://cdn-az.allevents.in/events1/banners/14b5164c4901befef9d80dfab80bdd193c070128a2c123768d8393d1da4ab3f7-rimg-w1200-h600-dc683898-gmir.jpg?v=1790350308", "startDate": "2026-10-10", "endDate": "2026-10-10", "url": "https://allevents.in/manchester/the-proud-place-guided-tour-and-the-story-of-manchesters-lgbt-centre/100002001376181033", "location": { "@type": "Place", "name": "Manchester Cenotaph", "address": { "@type": "PostalAddress", "streetAddress": "Manchester Cenotaph", "postalCode": "M2 5PD", "addressLocality": "Manchester", "addressRegion": "EN", "addressCountry": "GB" }, "geo": { "@type": "GeoCoordinates", "latitude": "53.4787072", "longitude": "-2.2430365" } }, "eventAttendanceMode": "https://schema.org/OfflineEventAttendanceMode", "description": "Join us for a guided tour of Manchester's LGBTQ+ history and delve into the amazing story of The Proud Place community centre.", "offers": [ { "@type": "AggregateOffer", "availability": "https://schema.org/InStock", "priceCurrency": "GBP", "availabilityStarts": "2026-10-14", "availabilityEnds": "2026-10-10", "validFrom": "2026-10-14", "lowPrice": "0.00", "highPrice": "11.55", "price": "0.00", "url": "https://allevents.in/manchester/the-proud-place-guided-tour-and-the-story-of-manchesters-lgbt-centre/100002001376181033" }, { "@type": "Offer", "availability": "https://schema.org/InStock", "priceCurrency": "GBP", "availabilityStarts": "2026-10-14", "availabilityEnds": "", "validFrom": "2026-10-14", "url": "https://allevents.in/manchester/the-proud-place-guided-tour-and-the-story-of-manchesters-lgbt-centre/100002001376181033", "price": "11.55", "name": "General Admission" }, { "@type": "Offer", "availability": "https://schema.org/InStock", "priceCurrency": "GBP", "availabilityStarts": "2026-10-14", "availabilityEnds": "", "validFrom": "2026-10-14", "url": "https://allevents.in/manchester/the-proud-place-guided-tour-and-the-story-of-manchesters-lgbt-centre/100002001376181033", "price": "6.13", "name": "Subsidised Fee" }, { "@type": "Offer", "availability": "https://schema.org/InStock", "priceCurrency": "GBP", "availabilityStarts": "2026-10-14", "availabilityEnds": "", "validFrom": "2026-10-14", "url": "https://allevents.in/manchester/the-proud-place-guided-tour-and-the-story-of-manchesters-lgbt-centre/100002001376181033", "price": 0, "name": "Free" } ], "organizer": [ { "@type": "Organization", "name": "The Proud Place", "url": "https://allevents.in/org/the-proud-place/20082308", "description": "Based in the heart of Manchester on Sidney Street, The Proud Place houses The Proud Trust and serves as a community hub for the wider LGBT+ population across Greater Manchester and beyond." } ] } ] ```
