- **Event Name**: The Daemon of Socrates- an open discussion session
- **Event Start and End Date**: Fri, 19 Jun, 2026 at 06:30 pm – Fri, 19 Jun, 2026 at 08:30 pm
- **Event Description**: In several dialogues Socrates speaks of his daemon – a voice he hears which guides his life. In this session we look at the nature of daemons in general; Socrates’ description of his interactions with his daemon; and the comments around this subject from several Platonic commentators from antiquity.

This event is free but donations are encouraged, circumstances allowing. We’ll start the session at 6.30pm – please come to the top floor of the pub on arrival. No need to book.
These evenings include short talks and/or readings from Platonic writings – but we hope they will be genuinely interactive, with all participants invited to contribute to our collaborative search for truth. No previous experience of formal philosophy is required. Every effort is made to make these type of evenings accessible to the newcomer, while allowing the great profundity of the Platonic tradition to step forward and speak to us at whatever level our present understanding sits.

This philosophy, wrote Thomas Taylor, “may be compared to a luminous pyramid, terminating in Deity, and having for its basis the rational soul of man and its spontaneous unperverted conceptions.” It is a path open to all men and women who seek those living truths which are so marked by stability, creative power and perfective energy – truths whose beauty is so attractive to the human soul.\n\nThe Trust strongly affirms the idea that the whole universe is a divine drama, and that each individual soul is a part of this joyful play.\n\n"
