About the Book
The Tossed Cookies Story is the first book in The Betsytown Bedtime Stories series, introducing readers to the narrator, Julia, who fondly recalls the foibles of her younger days. Told from the perspective of an older Julia, the story unfolds as a bedtime tale she shares with her young niece.
Set in the late 1920s, six-year-old Julia offers an innocent and humorous outlook on life that children today will still recognize-- and older generations will find nostalgic. Confident in her new role as a first grader, Julia is thrilled to spend the day baking her favorite cookies with her grandmother. But patience isn't Julia's strong suit. After waiting (and waiting) for the cookies to cool, she is rewarded with one... and then another... before sneaking three more while her grandmother is distracted. Chaos ensues! But her grandmother responds with the kind of love and forgiveness that Julia would carry in her heart for the rest of her life.
The back-and-forth between child and adult creates a story that is both endearing and timeless. Paired with nostalgic illustrations, The Tossed Cookeis Story captures the purity, humor, and enduring warmth of family bonds.
