Melissa F Kaelin BIO:

Author Melissa F. Kaelin is the Founder of the Michigan Aurora Chasers and the Co-Founder of the Aurora Summit: Celebrating the Art, Culture, Science and Photography of the Aurora. An avid adventurer and traveler, she has caught the Northern Lights in five countries and four U.S. states including Alaska. She has traveled to the Arctic Circle three different times in three different countries, which in 2025 took her to the "top of the Earth" in North Cape, Norway, at a latitude of 71.17 degrees North. Melissa guides people to the Northern Lights with helpful guides and with real-life adventures, such as the #LiveChase held by the Michigan Aurora Chasers. She has helped thousands of people experience the Aurora for the first time. Among her many honors, she won the Science Communicator Award for her work on the Ground Support Team of the SolarMax Mission to space, she serves as a host and staff expert for the U-M Alumni Association, and she has been featured as a keynote speaker for many dark sky festivals including Astronomy at the Beach, Longway Planetarium, and the Michigan Science Center After Dark program. She loves the outdoors, travel, writing and adventuring across the Great Lakes region with her dog, Elio.
