Layla Mehdi from the RUEDI Energy Storage Theme.This community building event is part of the series of RUEDI Town Halls across the UK, introducing and building new community and collaborations for the new Relativistic Ultrafast Electron Diffraction & Imaging (RUEDI) facility in the UK.RUEDI represents a £125 million investment funded by the EPSRC through the UKRI Infrastructure Funds and will be the only facility in the world offering both relativistic ultrafast electron diffraction and imaging capabilities of dynamic processes.The event will focus on building the user community across Energy Generation, Conversion & Storage to define an outline of the science programme focusing on an experimental priority closely aligned with academic and industrial users.The RUEDI facility will provide UK scientists with unprecedented capabilities to investigate and understand molecular-scale dynamics in-situ and under operando conditions. As the facility can uniquely investigate dynamics on the fs time scale of making and breaking individual bonds in large complex systems, RUEDI can rapidly advance the UK as a world leader in new technologies for energy storage, renewable energy conversion, catalysis, solar, nanophotonics and thermoelectrics. In addition to the scientific applications of this advanced facility, the development, testing and application of the operando stages, sensors and detectors and the AI/ image analytics to accelerate discovery, will enhance the UK education base and business competitiveness in a rapidly changing global research field.This event will be hosted by Professors B. Layla Mehdi (Energy Generation, Conversion & Storage Science Theme Lead, University of Liverpool, UK) and Nigel Browning (Director of RUEDI, University of Liverpool, UK).Guest speakers currently include:Professor Paul Shearing, University of OxfordProfessor Andy Beale, University College LondonThe event will be held on Friday, March 20th 2026 at The Midland Hotel, Manchester, UK in the Stanley Suite.Agenda to follow shortly.
