"Good evening everyone.
Apologies for the (slightly) late posting of this ride.
For the November Chorlton Wander we're going to Heaton Park as we did last year.
As usual, we'll be leaving from in front of the Warden's Office in the car park of Chorlton Water Park. Please be there by 10.00 to hear the safety talk.
In case I forget on the day but what I hope to say:-
Please get off the road when we stop to regroup.
If you're not used to group riding,  leave at least one wheel diameter between you and the bike ahead of you.
Be aware of what's around you: front, side, rear.
Only pass on the right. Best to announce your presence: "On your right" works for me.
Although we're allowed to ride 2 a breast on the roads, I'd prefer it if we stayed in single file with groups of 5 bikes close together and a gap of 2 car lengths between groups to allow faster traffic to leapfrog us. Please don't close the gaps between the groups.
Be aware of faster riders who may be wanting to get to the front of the ride having stopped to signpost.
Your "conversations" are not more important than being aware of what may be happening around you. Trust me on this.....

This year I've managed to pre-book for the group but we may be on different tables albeit they'll be close together. I've said we'll be there at around 13.00. I'll let them know as we get nearer.
The route out there is largely traffic free with lots of well surfaced off-road.
There is one significant hill plus a couple of other, smaller ones including up to the Temple in Heaton Park. Total distance is around 50km/30miles.
The return is by part of the outward route and we'll go through Media City to avoid the worst of the roads around Old Trafford.
I'm hoping that we'll be back before it gets dark but please bring lights just in case and remember that you'll have to get home after the ride as well.
Ride participant Lucy has agreed to tell you all about the old Manchester town hall front that is on display in the park.
