Presented as part of the Here We Are Festival, this unique concert spans medieval polyphony, groundbreaking twentieth-century works, contemporary composition and one of Beethoven's most celebrated piano concertos. Performed in the beautiful surroundings of the Monastery's Great Nave, it promises an inspiring musical experience in one of Manchester's most distinctive historic venues.

ABOUT THE CONCERT

Opening with Pérotin's Viderunt Omnes, this thoughtfully curated programme traces the evolution of musical ideas across almost eight centuries. Audiences will experience works that continue to challenge expectations, from medieval sacred music to twentieth-century experimentation and contemporary composition.

The evening includes Charles Ives' The Unanswered Question, a pioneering work in which strings, trumpet and woodwind create distinct musical conversations, alongside the premiere of They Are Our Life, a new composition by Alan Williams, created with carers from across Greater Manchester in partnership with the University of Salford.

Acclaimed pianist Ethan Loch, Manchester Camerata's Artistic Partner, returns to The Monastery to perform Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 3, joining conductor Christoph Altstaedt and Manchester Camerata for one of the composer's most powerful and expressive works.

The concert concludes with Terry Riley's In C, a landmark minimalist composition built from repeating musical patterns that evolve gradually throughout the performance, creating a unique experience for performers and audience alike.
