- **Event Description**: Join nationally recognized African American fiber storytelling artist Lauren Austin for Open Studio Hours at the Downtown Artist Cellar.

Throughout her residency, the community is invited to stop in, experience the creative process, view works in progress, sew, create, share stories, and connect through art in a welcoming and relaxed environment.

No quilting or sewing experience is necessary. All ages and experience levels are welcome. Participants are welcome to bring sewing machines, fabric, or projects to work on, though some materials and machines will also be available.

Lauren Austin’s work blends quilting, printmaking, beading, and stitched surface design into richly layered works exploring memory, family, culture, and storytelling. Her work has been exhibited nationally, including at the Smithsonian Renwick Gallery.
