Identifying Rainforest Plants of the Blackall Range: Not another large compound leaf!

You know the scenario: you think you have rainforest ID under the belt. Your neighbour points to a tree. “Is this a red cedar or a red bean?” And in that moment, you are flustered and are wondering just what the differences are! We know the feeling, and are addressing this in the workshop “Not another large compound leaf”.

We will identify the differences between simple and compound leaves, and speculate on the evolutionary advantages of compound leaves. Examining specimens of a dozen or so species with large compound leaves of our local rainforest, we will sort out the differences.

Join Hilary Pearl and Rowena Thomas at the Barung Nursery for a two-hour workshop designed for all those who have struggled with this. We recommend you bring a pen, a torch (or a phone with a torch), and your own hand lens if you have one. Magnifying lenses and hand lenses will be available to use, and worksheets will be supplied. We will finish with a walk in the Barung Seed Forest.
