23 MAPLE STREET MALENY
Based on the recent book of the same name by Maggie O’Farrell, Hamnet is the tragic story of the impact of the death of Shakespeare’s young son Hamnet. This event is thought to be the inspiration for his play Hamlet. Thought-provoking, and with lush representations of the physical world of the time, director Chloe Zhao’s film has created a meditation on grief and the lasting legacy of art. Jessie Buckley and Paul Mescal give outstanding performances in the lead roles, supported by Emily Watson and Joe Alwyn. The film has already won a number of awards, including the Audience Award for Best Feature at the British Film Industry London Film Festival.
