- **Event Description**: A chance to learn about this important early mediaeval battleAbout this EventTo encourage interest in battlefield heritage the Battlefields Trust and its partner organisations are arranging a series of battlefield walks in September 2026. Come and join the Battlefields Trust to explore this Anglo Saxon-Viking battle which took place in 991.The walk will start at the Promenade Car Park, Park Drive, Maldon CM9 5JQ.The walk will tour the battle site, cross the tidal causeway to Northey Island, and finish with a visit to the statue of Ealdorman Byrhtnoth on the promenade at Maldon. The visit will take 2-3 hours.The walk is along uneven riverside paths, and access is via a tidal causeway which is uneven and slippery. Sturdy shoes are recommended, and it is unsuitable for wheelchair access. You are welcome to bring a picnic onto the island.Under 18s must be accompanied by a parent, guardian, or carerTickets are free but limited to 30 people.If you enjoy the walk and would like to make a small donation to help the work of the Battlefields Trust, feel free to do so.
