What is Utah Authors Day?
On the first Saturday in December we organize events at bookstores and libraries all over the state for authors and readers to connect. We had over 100 authors at over 20 locations last year, and we're hoping to expand in 2025.
If the event isn't until December, why do signups end in August?
When signups close we act as a matchmaking service pairing eligible authors with participating locations. We need time to match your availability to an event. Then locations and authors need time to order books, create publicity materials, and spread the word!
Who is eligible to apply?
If you live in Utah and have writing published in a physical book, you're eligible! This can be fiction, nonfiction, or poetry, full length books or short pieces in a longer collection. While the event is organized by the League of Utah Writers, you do not need to be a League member to participate.
Will I definitely get accepted if I apply?
We'll do our best to match you with a location, but spots are limited so we can't make guarantees. Acceptance isn't based on your sales, readership, or author platform -- it's solely based on whether we find a match for your availability and genre among our participating locations. The more times of day you are available and the farther you are willing to travel, the more likely we will find you a match. We get many more Salt Lake City applicants every year than there are spots available, so please consider being willing to travel to locations further from home. You can tell us your preferences in the application form.
How soon will I know if I was accepted?
We will email all applicants by October 1st to let you know if we found you a location match. Then we'll give you contact information for your location host so you can plan the specifics of your event together.
