About the event

Dathliad 170 Celebration
Mae Menter Bro Ogwr yn falch iawn o gyhoeddi y bydd digwyddiad arbennig yn cael ei gynnal i nodi 170 mlynedd ers i Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau gael ei ganu am y tro cyntaf ym Maesteg, un o’r eiliadau pwysicaf yn hanes diwylliant Cymru.

Cynhelir y digwyddiad coffaol yn Neuadd y Dref, Maesteg, ar 1af Mawrth 2026 am 3yp, gan ddod â’r gymuned leol a gwesteion o bob cwr ynghyd i ddathlu cân sydd wedi dod yn symbol cenedlaethol o falchder, hunaniaeth ac undod Cymreig.

Cafodd Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau ei chanu’n gyhoeddus am y tro cyntaf ym Maesteg yn 1856, gyda’r geiriau gan Evan James a’r alaw gan ei fab, James James. Er nad oedd neb ar y pryd yn gallu rhagweld ei dylanwad, mae’r gân bellach wedi dod yn anthem genedlaethol Cymru ac yn rhan annatod o fywyd cenedlaethol yn cael ei chanu mewn digwyddiadau chwaraeon, seremonïau swyddogol a chynulliadau cymunedol ledled y byd.

Mae’r ffaith bod tarddiad yr anthem yma ym Maesteg yn destun balchder mawr i’r ardal, ac mae’r pen-blwydd arbennig hwn yn gyfle i adlewyrchu ar bwysigrwydd treftadaeth ddiwylliannol lleol a’i dylanwad cenedlaethol a rhyngwladol.

Bydd y digwyddiad yn cynnwys perfformiadau cerddorol, cyfraniadau gan westeion nodedig, a chyfle i ddathlu hanes a dyfodol y Gymraeg a diwylliant Cymru mewn awyrgylch cynnes a chroesawgar. Rydym yn pwysleisio mai digwyddiad agored i bawb yw hwn, ac mae croeso cynnes i unigolion, teuluoedd a chymunedau lleol fynychu.

Mae mynediad am ddim, ond mae’n hanfodol archebu ymlaen llaw. Gofynnir i bawb sydd â diddordeb mewn mynychu cysylltu trwy e-bost neu dros y ffôn er mwyn sicrhau eu lle, a bydd mynediad yn cael ei gadarnhau ymlaen llaw.

Menter Bro Ogwr is delighted to announce that a special event will be held to mark 170 years since Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau was sung for the first time in Maesteg, one of the most significant moments in the history of Welsh culture.

The commemorative event will take place at Maesteg Town Hall on 1 March 2026 at 3:00pm, bringing together the local community and guests from across the country to celebrate a song that has become a national symbol of Welsh pride, identity, and unity.

Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau was first sung publicly in Maesteg in 1856, with lyrics by Evan James and the melody composed by his son, James James. Although no one at the time could have foreseen its influence, the song has since become the national anthem of Wales and an integral part of national life, sung at sporting events, official ceremonies, and community gatherings around the world.

The fact that the anthem originated in Maesteg is a great source of pride for the area, and this significant anniversary provides an opportunity to reflect on the importance of local cultural heritage and its national and international impact.

The event will include musical performances, contributions from notable guests, and an opportunity to celebrate the history and future of the Welsh language and Welsh culture in a warm and welcoming atmosphere. We emphasise that this is an event open to everyone, and a warm welcome is extended to individuals, families, and local communities.

Admission is free, but advance booking is essential. Anyone wishing to attend is asked to get in touch by email or phone to secure their place. Attendance will be confirmed in advance.
