El exprofesor de la Escuela Oficial de Idiomas, Rafael López Berho, nos propone la siguiente: Revolutionary Road.
Synopsis:
Revolutionary Road is a 2008 film directed by Sam Mendes ('American Beauty'), starring Leonardo di Caprio and Kate Winslet. Set in the mid-1950s, a couple, Frank and April Wheeler (di Caprio and Winslet) try their best to keep their relationship afloat and overcome the unbearable emptiness that threatens to sink their marriage.
The film is an adaptation of the eponymous novel written by Richard Yates (American fiction writer, born in 1926) in 1961, which became a finalist for the 1962 National Book Award. It was precisely the Golden Globe-winning picture which renewed interest in Richard Yates since his death in 1992.
It is interesting to remark that in the year 2006, almost half a century later, Rachel Cusk, the Canadian author born in 1967, wrote “Arlington Park”, a novel that bears a strange resemblance to “Revolutionary Road”. Despite both authors’ obvious differences in sex, age, time, setting and perspective, they coincide in their view of emptiness, frustration, loneliness and the tyranny of marriage.
