Join the Church of the Maidens for The First Open Hand, our first community volunteer gathering at the Food Bank of North Alabama.

We’ll spend the afternoon helping with the Food Bank’s assigned food-sorting and packing work, following staff guidance and supporting neighbors facing food insecurity.

The First Open Hand is inspired by Love Maiden’s teaching of care freely given. We are a new local religious community, and people of every faith or none are welcome to volunteer with us. You do not need to join the Church, attend worship, or make a donation to participate.

You’re welcome to come on your own—you don’t need to know anyone in the group.

BEFORE YOU COME
Wear closed-toe shoes and comfortable clothing suitable for warehouse volunteering. Follow the Food Bank’s registration instructions and review the training materials provided through your account.

The Food Bank’s published minimum volunteer age is 13. Please confirm any supervision or waiver requirements with the Food Bank before registering a minor.

If you have lifting restrictions or need an accommodation, please contact the Food Bank before the event so staff can advise on suitable participation.

If your plans change after registering, please cancel your booking and let us know so the place can be made available to someone else.
