Steve Pike, a retired teacher now from Mequon, WI, has been calling a variety of contras, squares, Irish sets and other dances for over thirty years at venues from Alaska to Denmark. His clear, concise, laid-back teaching style emphasizes the joy of dancing while building a sense of community among dancers and musicians.
7:00pm Beginner Lesson
7:30pm-10:00pm Dance
All dances are taught; no partner or experience necessary.
If you are new to contra dancing, we recommend attending the beginner lesson. Dances tend to start simple and increase in complexity as the evening progresses.
Masking or testing for COVID is no longer required, unless Dane County's CDC hospital admission level is high or red. If it is red or high, participants must either wear an effective mask - N95, KN95, KF94 - or have a negative self-administered rapid antigen test after 5 pm on the day of the dance. We will notify the dance community if it's yellow or red.
Please do not attend if you are having symptoms of respiratory illness.
Send us a message if you're interested in getting involved, or have general questions, concerns, or feedback about our dances.
