What is the Winter Solstice?�
On June 21, Australia will experience the shortest day (least daylight hours) and longest night of the year, but not the coldest day. It occurs because the South Pole is tilted at its maximum angle away from the sun, meaning Australia receives the least direct sunlight.
Each day after the solstice, we get one minute more of sunlight. It doesn't sound like much, but after just two months, or around 60 days, we'll be seeing about an hour more of sunlight
