We are absolutely thrilled to bring you new Welsh language film on its release date!

Sara & Rowan were lucky enough to see a preview screening a few months ago and they both thought it was absolutely fantastic.

Based on Gary Owen's much lauded and widely performed monodrama, Iphigenia in Splott, Effi o Blaenau is director Marc Evans' cinematic interpretation set against the wide open landscapes of North Wales.

Effi is a young woman desperate to escape a town where the pubs are closed, the jobs have vanished and her grandmother works night shifts in the local chip shop just to get by. A chance
encounter in a Llandudno nightclub with injured soldier Lee, played by Tom Rhys Harries, briefly opens a door to something better. For a moment, Effi glimpses a life she never imagined. The reality that follows is far tougher. Leisa Gwenllian gives a searing performance as Effi, evoking condemnation and sympathy in equal measures.

Mae Effi yn fenyw ifanc sy’n dyheu am gael gadael tref lle mae’r tafarndai wedi cau, y swyddi wedi diflannu a lle mae ei nain yn gweithio sifftiau nos yn y siop sglodion lleol i gael deupen llinyn ynghyd. Mae cwrdd ar hap â milwr sydd wedi’i anafu mewn clwb nos yn Llandudno, wedi’i chwarae gan Tom Rhys Harries, yn agor drws iddi i rywbeth gwell. Am ennyd, mae Effi yn cael cip ar fywyd na wnaeth erioed ei ddychmygu. Ond mae’r realiti a ddaw wedi hynny yn llawer anoddach. Mae Leisa Gwenllian yn rhoi perfformiad tanbaid fel Effi, gan ennyn condemniad a chydymdeimlad fel ei gilydd.
