Emma Coleman is a singer, cellist and workshop facilitator who is fascinated by the melting pot magic of vocal improvisation and body music. She is passionate about the dance between individual expression, collaborative creativity, and human connection which these artforms inspire.From Indian classical music to contemporary folk, experimental jazz to immersive theatre, Emma has over 10 years of experience performing professionally around the UK and Europe with a range of projects. Her eclectic musical journey grew from orchestral, classical roots, and has led her to predominantly with the sun-soaked, Afro-folk quintet, Me and My Friends.In recent years she has immersed herself in the creative world of spontaneous, collaborative vocal music, studying and assisting on a variety of courses focusing on improvisation forms such as circle-singing, pioneered by Bobby McFerrin, as well as being lucky enough to travel and study body percussion at International Body Music Festivals in Greece and Ghana.As well as co-facilitating a series of Free Your Voice workshops in 2019 and teaching the integration of musicianship into vocal improvisation on a year-long course in 2020, Emma has been involved in hosting collaboratively-led retreats for facilitators of the art form and continues to be excited about the potential for exploration, learning, and growth.
