Jazz Masterclass with Miho Hazama

This March, Conservatorium Maastricht welcomes Grammy-nominated composer and conductor Miho Hazama for an in-depth collaboration with our jazz department.

Miho Hazama is internationally recognised as one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary jazz composition and orchestral writing. During her visit, she will share her artistic vision, compositional process and extensive professional experience through a plenary session and an extended breakout session with students.

About Miho Hazama
Grammy-nominated composer and arranger Miho Hazama is widely regarded as one of the most promising talents of her generation. She was named one of DownBeat’s ‘25 for the Future’ and is the founder of her signature jazz chamber orchestra, m_unit. The ensemble has released three full-length albums on Universal Music Japan and Sunnyside Records, featuring guest artists such as Joshua Redman, Lionel Loueke, Christian McBride and Gil Goldstein. Their third album, Dancer in Nowhere, was nominated for the 62nd Grammy Awards.
Composition lies at the heart of Hazama’s work. Alongside m_unit, she has written for leading orchestras worldwide, including the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra and the Metropole Orkest. She has held residencies with the Siena Wind Orchestra and Orchestra Ensemble Kanazawa, where she was named Composer of the Year in 2019.
