Tintin Patrone & Song-Yi / THIS IS SPARTA!

At the center of the performance is a dialogue between a musician and a small electric wheelchair—at once an autonomous kinetic performer and an extension of the body. Moving between music, choreography, and robotics, the project—presented with support by Vienna-based Korean-German performance artist and dancer Susanne Songi Griem—explores the intersections of therapy and pop culture.

Tintin Patrone is a German-Filipino sound and performance artist. She is captivated by the exploration of interconnections among music, art, sound, and experimental forms of expression. Her creative works revolve around sound as a cultural system and the ways in which personal and societal connections are established with it. By involving herself with robots and artificial intelligence in her artistic practice, Tintin Patrone challenges established notions of human subjectivity and physical presence. As a musician, she has performed at festivals such as Skaņu Mežs (LV), Intonal (SE), Meakusma (BE), Unsafe&Sound (AT), and Lacking Sound Fest (TW). She specializes in minimal sound work and drone-based solo performances, informed by studies in microtonality and interspecies communication. Using the trombone as her primary instrument alongside modulation devices, she carefully shapes sustained-tone soundscapes that invite contemplative listening.

Tomoko Sauvage is a Paris-based Japanese composer and artist who is best known for her long-time musical and performance practice on her original instrumentarium assembling water, ceramics and electronics. Her work centers around tactile materiality of vibrant objects and the use of the chance as a compositional method. Sauvage has performed at Barbican Centre, Palais de Tokyo, Maerz Musik, Musée d’art moderne de Paris, Manifesta 13, Roskilde Festival and RIBOCA, and her installation and video works have been shown at Sharjah Art Foundation, Portland Institute for Contemporary Art and Maison Tavel.

Kubin’s music is saturated with enthusiasm for disharmonic pop, industrial noise, and 20th-century avant-garde music. Since 1998, he has released a diverse array of albums with various conceptual approaches and playes over 100 electronic music festivals such as Sonar, Transmediale, Unsound, Performa, Wien Modern, Présences Electroniques and Ars Electronica. In 2010 he appeared on the cover of the British music magazine WIRE. He likes to move between high and low culture, clubs and concert halls, as his main concern is the shifting of contexts and expectations. His commission works comprise compositions for a.o. NDR das neue werk, Mearzmusik, Présence Electroniques and internationales Musikfest Hamburg. He also created and hosted experimental radio shows like „Demo Dandies“ (with Felix Raeithel), the interdisciplinary „Call Center for Destruction“ and the radio series „Me & My Rhythm Box“, a live programme
produced for Savvy Funk / dOCUMENTA 14 in 2017. French film director Marie Losier portrayed Felix Kubin in the award-winning film „Felix in Wonderland“, which premiered at the Locarno Film Festival in 2019 and has been shown worldwide on film festivals and on ARTE TV ever since. Felix Kubin is one of electronic music’s most dynamic and versatile. Felix Kubin’s music is released on editions Mega, Bureau B, Dekoder, Minimal Wave and his own label Gagarin Records.
